Jour de Pluie

Marc Bourdeau

2023

Jour de pluie – a short film based on the homonymous piano piece by Canadian composer Rachel Laurin – explores rainfall as a symbol for hope and renewal. The viewer is taken on a voyage into a young woman’s subconscious reverie and anguish. The innocent occurrence of a teardrop falling into a cup of tea sets off a string of dreamlike associations plunging into the ups and downs of motherhood. The final scene of rain washes away anxiety and shows a hope beam.

A dialogue between surreal cinema, aesthetics inspired by Brazilian Carnaval, editorial photography, and evocative music for piano, the film is a North-South collaboration between Brazilian filmmaker Caio Amon and Canadian pianist Marc Bourdeau.
